About Gigi Cavanaugh

Gigi Cavanaugh is an agent for Bureau Real Estate. She started school in her home state of Connecticut before landing at the State University of New York, where she studied marketing with a focus on civil law. Once school was over, she decided to stick around for a while. “Once you get the rhythms of New York down, it’s hard to leave,” she says. “It becomes part of who you are.” She spent most of her time in Park Slope in Brooklyn, working with Gabrielle Roth, the founder of the 5Rhythms Ecstatic Dance and Raven Recording. “I loved it. Gabrielle and her husband Robert were amazing people and a huge influence on me,” she says. “They’re why I got into graphic design. I started as a part-time assistant and eventually became their Advertising Director. With their guidance and energy, I flourished doing something I enjoyed and still enjoy dabbling in.”

Gigi spent time in Utah when she was growing up and she loved to ski; hitting slopes in Europe, Canada, and throughout the U.S. She eventually became a ski instructor. This minor detail in her life would provide her an out when she eventually decided it was time to leave New York and broaden her horizons. “It’s funny that skiing, which was such an escape for me, gave me a way to leave the city and eventually brought me back to the mountains of Utah,” she says. “Life can surprise you sometimes.” When her stint as a mountain patroller in Utah ended, she’d thought she’d continue west to California, but a graphic design position opened up in Park City and she stayed. That was almost 20 years ago.“

"I started in a graphics job at Prudential, and eventually learned the business,” Gigi said of her early days in real estate. “I’m lucky to have met and worked with some wonderful people. It’s why I stayed on.” With her strong marketing skills and head for details, she was an indispensable partner to top producing agents at Prudential, and later, Summit Sotheby’s, where she eventually became an agent herself, earning her license in 2007. “This is a people-centered business and to be successful, you have to understand what people want,” she says. “To do that, you have to listen and pay attention. People are sharing things that are important to them.”
